Sodium Caprylate is used as a surfactant, emulsifier, and preservative in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is commonly used as a permeation enhancer of oral delivery systems for therapeutic drugs with poor bioavailability. Sodium Caprate is approved as a food additive in both the United States and European Union.
In bioprocessing, Sodium Caprylate is widely used for protection, separation and precipitation of target therapeutic proteins, and is frequently used in blood fractionation as a stabilizer to retain biological activity of pharmaceutical proteins such as human albumin solutions during pasteurization.
Synonyms: octanoic acid sodium salt, sodium octanoate, caprylic acid sodium salt, sodium n-octanoate, natrium octanoat, sodium salt of caprylic acid
